The
following is a suggested care & cleaning for the finishes
that may be present inside the elevator and based on typical
products for use by building
owners. Refinishing or deep cleaning should only be performed
by qualified professionals.
- Satin Finish Stainless Steel (#4)
We advise using a non-oily metal
polish such as, Stainless Steel Magic®, available at Home
Depot. Try to use as little as possible, a little goes a long
way. Buff with a dry towel in long vertical stokes.
-
Mirror Finish Stainless Steel
(#8)
We recommend
using any good quality glass cleaner. Again, it’s very
important to refrain from using a swirling stroke. Even though
considered
mirrored,
it does have a grain which usually runs vertically.
-
Satin Finish (#4) or Polished (#8) Muntz (Bronze)
Use only clear water and a clean dry towel. Spray or wipe
a damp towel in long vertical strokes. Buff with a
dry towel in long
vertical strokes. Avoid using a swirling motion even on
mirrored finishes. Avoid using paper towels, as they
will eventually
scratch the surface. If streaking occurs, use a mixture
of 90% water and 10% denatured alcohol. This will increase
the
drying time. DO NOT use any metal polish on lacquered surfaces.
They will eventually break down the finish resulting in
expensive refinishing.
-
Plastic Laminate
The
decorative surface may be cleaned with warm water and mild soaps,
such as those used for hands or dishes. Do not use cleansers
that contain abrasives, acids or alkalis; they will damage
the decorative surface. Remove stubborn stains with a 2-minute
exposure to hypochlorite bleach such as Clorox®, followed by
a clean water rinse.
We recommend that you not allow any of the following agents
to remain in contact with the decorative surface:
-
Hypochlorite bleach, except as described above
-
Hydrogen peroxide solution
-
Mineral
acids, hydrochloric acid such as Lime-A-Way®
-
Sulfuric
or nitric acid
-
Caustic solutions containing greater than 2% lye,
such as Drano®
-
Sodium bisulfate, such as Sani-Flush®
-
Potassium permanganate
-
Berry juices
-
Silver nitrate, in 1% concentration or greater
-
Gentian violet
-
Mild silver protein, such as 20% argyrol
-
Bluing
-
Fabric dye, such as Tintex® or Rit®
-
Alcohol containing 1% iodine in solution
